What kind of concrete sealers?
Concrete sealers fall into two main types:
· Surface Sealer – this is the most popular type of sealer and works by creating a protective layer over the concrete surface to keep water, stains, chemicals, and other foreign elements enter the concrete.
Under this category are three types of sealers:
1. Acrylic Sealers – Despite softer compared to other types of surface sealers, acrylics are ideal for exterior use because they are UV-resistant and does not retain moisture. They greatly enhance the finished look of decorative colored concrete by creating a wet glossy appearance.
2. Epoxy sealer – like acrylics, epoxies create a polished concrete surface but they offer more power than an acrylic sealer. However, they trap moisture in the concrete so they are not suitable for outdoor applications and is recommended for use as a garage interior.
3. Urethane sealers – urethanes or polyurethanes are about twice the thickness of acrylic, which makes it highly resistant to abrasion and chemicals. Indeed, urethanes are the strongest type of sealer but they are also the most expensive and, therefore, are usually used for industrial applications.
